In New Hampshire, there is no state-level legislation or regulation regarding gifted education. Special programming for the Gifted or Talented is entirely a matter of local option. Such programming may be referred to as “Enrichment”, but not all “Enrichment” programs are targeted to the gifted. The key to whether a program is a true “gifted” program is whether there is a formal identification process. There is no state standard in New Hampshire for identification, so this is entirely up to local districts.
Ed 306.06 Culture and Climate.
(a) The school policies adopted by the local school board shall reflect:
(1) The acknowledgement of diversity and respect for differences;
Ed 306.14 Basic Instructional Standards. The local school board shall require that each school has an instructional program which includes the following:
(g) A policy encouraging students to pursue and demonstrate advanced course work, including advanced placement courses in high school;
Caroline D. Bradley Scholarship for Gifted 7th Graders - The Institute for Educational Advancement is a non profit organization dedicated to serving the needs of gifted young people. IEA encourages current 7th graders who demonstrate exceptional academic ability and intellectual precocity to apply for a Caroline D. Bradley Scholarship. This is a national program that awards selected applicants with a four year scholarship to a high school that nurtures and supports each individual scholar’s intellectual and personal needs. The national Davidson Young Scholars program helps profoundly gifted students discover others with similar interests and abilities, utilizing their skills and talents to maximize their educational potential and make a difference in the lives of others. Parents collaborate with a skilled team of Family Consultants who provide individualized services based on each family’s unique needs, most often in the areas of educational advocacy, social and emotional development, and enrichment opportunities.
