The Division of Instruction consists of the following bureaus/offices.

Accountability

The mission of this Bureau is to improve the achievement of students by providing educational leadership though accountability.

Assessment

This team is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and monitoring, and the statewide assessment system which includes: NHEIAP (New Hampshire Educational Assessment and Improvement Program), NECAP (New England Common Assessment Program, NHEIAP Alternate Assessment and NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress).

Charter/Public Choice

On September 28, 2010 New Hampshire Department of Education was approved for 11.6 Million in Federal Charter Start Up Money for the full funding period of five years. The grant objectives are to offer districts the opportunity to create charter schools within their district to promote innovative practices. NH will also use these federal grant funds to improve student achievement in secondary charter schools and increase graduation rates. We will support the dissemination of best practices developed in charter schools to other public schools and districts in the state and empower charter schools to become strong, independent organizations, while ensuring fiscally responsible practices. NH will increase the number of high-quality charter schools in New Hampshire, particularly those serving educationally disadvantaged students who are most at risk in rural and urban settings

Curriculum

This team is responsible for the development and revision of the content area standards (New Hampshire Curriculum Frameworks) and provides technical assistance to schools in the area of curriculum. They also provide content expertise throughout the Department.

Educational Technology

The Office of Educational Technology collects and disseminates information on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), such as annual technology surveys, online professional development, virtual schools, online and blended learning, technology planning, library media services, Internet safety, and the federal E-Rate program, based on current trends, research, and funding opportunities. OET also directs the NH e-Learning for Educators initiative, which provides online professional development through the OPEN NH program and also provides training in facilitation and development of online and blended learning experiences.

Integrated Programs

Provides leadership, technical assistance, and professional development to schools and community-based organizations in the implementation of specific federal grant programs authorized through the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and amended by the "No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001" (PL 107-110). Certain programs serve general populations, while others are designed to serve children, youth, and families with specific educational needs, such as disadvantaged, neglected and delinquent, migrant, homeless, and non-English speaking children.

School Health

School Health is a part of the New Hampshire Department of Education, Division of Instruction. It provides information, resources, and technical assistance in the areas of HIV prevention education, Health education, and School Health Services.

School Improvement and Innovation

This team is responsible for improvement of student achievement through a continuous school improvement process that includes technical assistance for districts and schools as well as targeted assistance for districts identified as Districts in Need of Improvement (DINI) and schools identified as Schools in Need of Improvement (SINI).

Special Education

The mission of Special Education is to improve educational outcomes for children and youth with disabilities by providing and promoting leadership, technical assistance and collaboration statewide.
