Student Artwork Wins National Award

Two students at the DJ Bakie School in Kingston have been selected as New Hampshire’s representatives in the 2011 All Kids Can CREATE national touring exhibition, featuring artwork submitted by students, from each state and the District of Columbia. More than 4,600 entries from artists across the country were submitted. An expert panel of judges, including artists and art educators selected 102 student artists to be featured in the exhibition. Their teacher Maryanne Swegles was only one of five teachers in the nation also chosen for an essay she wrote on the importance of integrating special needs students in a typical classroom setting. She will be going to Washington DC with the two students and their parents in June. More information can be found at www.artsonia.com/allkidscancreate or read the Eagle-Tribune article at
