Content of the HiSET Tests

HiSET’s purpose is to certify attainment of academic knowledge and skills equivalent to those of a high school graduate. HiSET will include five subject tests:

Language Arts, Writing, Part I 50 questions, 75 minutes

Language Arts, Writing Part II Essay, 45 minutes

Language Arts, Reading 40 questions, 65 minutes

Social Studies, 50 questions, 70 minutes

Science, 50 questions, 80 minutes

Mathematics, 50 questions, 90 minutes (calculator allowed for entire test)

HiSET Tests are offered in English and Spanish.
Except for the essay portion of the Writing Test, all questions are in a multiple-choice format
