Certification/Credentialing

Credentialing Knowledge Base

In our continuing efforts to provide accurate and timely customer service, the Bureau of Credentialing is excited to introduce our new Knowledge Base. All of the information previously linked on our website is located within the Knowledge Base, with improved functionality and search features.

We will continue to add help articles for your most common inquiries. We will also be offering a convenient Help Desk feature to be rolled out early 2020, providing an opportunity to create an account and monitor all your Credentialing inquiries in one place, with quick access to Knowledge Base information.

The NH Department of Education, Credentialing administers established rules to evaluate the applications of candidates for an educator credential. Recommended by the NH Professional Standards Board and approved by the State Board of Education, these rules govern educator credentialing. All professionals employed in NH public schools must possess the appropriate credential for an assignment if required. Credentialing is responsible for the certification and recertification of all educators from Superintendents through paraeducators. We are also responsible for the investigation of educators involved in acts of misconduct.

Renewal of Certificate

The NH State Board of Education may adopt a new fee schedule in the spring of 2020. Please be advised that the fee for educator license renewal is tentatively expected to decrease to $120 after rule adoption from the current fee of $130. The fee for paraeducator license renewal is tentatively expected to decrease to $10 after rule adoption from the current fee of $25. While renewal applications may be submitted after January 1st, 2020, note that any applications submitted prior to the rule adoption will not be issued refunds.

After rule adoption additional communication will be emailed from our office to notify potential renewal applicants.

For educators and paraeducators employed under a NH Professional Development Master Plan: The Superintendent/Head of School may submit recommendations for license renewal after January 1st, 2020. The date the Superintendent/Head of School submits the renewal through EIS (Educator Information System) has no bearing on the fee an applicant is charged. The fee is determined upon date of application.
