Gifted & Talented Education

In New Hampshire, there is no state-level legislation or regulation regarding gifted education. Special programming for the Gifted or Talented is entirely a matter of local option. Such programming may be referred to as “Enrichment”, but not all “Enrichment” programs are targeted to the gifted. The key to whether a program is a true “gifted” program is whether there is a formal identification process. There is no state standard in New Hampshire for identification, so this is entirely up to local districts.

Advanced Courses

Ed 306.14 Basic Instructional Standards. The local school board shall require that each school has an instructional program which includes the following:
(g) A policy encouraging students to pursue and demonstrate advanced course work, including advanced placement courses in high school;

Caroline D. Bradley Scholarship for Gifted 7th Graders - The Institute for Educational Advancement is a non profit organization dedicated to serving the needs of gifted young people. IEA encourages current 7th graders who demonstrate exceptional academic ability and intellectual precocity to apply for a Caroline D. Bradley Scholarship. This is a national program that awards selected applicants with a four year scholarship to a high school that nurtures and supports each individual scholar’s intellectual and personal needs. The Center for Gifted Education (CFGE) is a research and development center providing services to educators, policy makers, graduate students, researchers, and parents in support of the needs of gifted and talented individuals.

Center for Creative Learning in Sarasota, Florida - Our work focuses on Creative Problem Solving (CPS), the Levels of Service (LoS) approach to talent development, and problem-solving style. Over the years, we have published many books and articles, presented at NAGC Conferences and many state conferences, and worked in a number of countries outside the USA. Our President, Dr. Don Treffinger has been an NAGC Board Member, editor of the Gifted Child Quarterly, and editor-in-chief of Parenting for High Potential Magazine. The purpose of this message is to announce that we have just completed a complete restructuring of our Center’s Web site,, as well as a wide variety of new resources and materials. The Davidson Young Scholars program provides FREE services designed to nurture and support profoundly gifted young people and their families, including talent development and educational advocacy, an online community, annual get-togethers, and the Ambassador Program.

SENG-Model Parent Support Group - For parents of bright, gifted or talented children
You are invited to participate in a guided discussion group to learn about the social and emotional needs of bright/gifted/talented children, and the parenting issues related to those needs. The emphasis is on positive aspects of parenting, avoiding power struggles, and helping these children learn appropriate life skills while enhancing the parent/child relationship.
Topics will include: Identification/Characteristics, Parent Relationships, Sibling Relationships, Communication of Feelings, Stress Management, Depression, Motivation, Tradition Breaking, Peer Relationships, and Discipline.
