Learn Everywhere Education Program Captures Student Learning Across NH

Engaging new DOE program designed to bring students to bright futures, wherever learning takes place.

CONCORD, NH – An aspiring actor, dancer, or musician performing in an arts program; a student receiving afterschool math tutoring at the Boys and Girls Club; a part-time internship at the local manufacturing company that leads to acquired skills. New Hampshire students truly learn everywhere but they don’t always earn credits toward graduation for the time they spend expanding their knowledge outside of the standard school day.

That is why the New Hampshire Department of Education designed the Learn Everywhere program – an innovative approach to learning that takes the state’s existing philosophy, law, and rules, and multiplies educational opportunities for students in support of local schools.

Learn Everywhere creates a process to credential education programs by the State Board of Education and allows students to earn credits for what they learn ensuring that all New Hampshire’s children receive a comprehensive and adequate education.

“Learn Everywhere expands opportunities in New Hampshire’s already strong public education system without taking anything away from students and families,” noted Frank Edelblut, the commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Education. “It finds unique ways for students to engage in deep and meaningful learning that will count toward their graduation.”

“Learn Everywhere offers New Hampshire students a 21st Century educational system that extends well beyond the four walls of a classroom,” said Gov. Chis Sununu. “Bolstering innovative proposals such as Learn Everywhere, which recognize that a one-size fits all approach does not work for every student, is key to the success of our children – and is why SB 435 was one of my major legislative priorities. This program opens up a myriad of opportunities for students in New Hampshire to pursue educational paths that encourage their passion to learn and best fit their needs.”

At the Dec. 13, 2018, State Board of Education meeting, Edelblut presented the initial rule proposal as a first step to increasing options for busy students and families and helping children falling through the cracks due to the education equity and achievement gap. The state board approved the proposal and will hold a public hearing about Learn Everywhere on Feb. 14, 2019.
