Educator Information System goes paperless

DOE streamlines online educator credentialing

Speaking to the New Hampshire Association of School Principal’s Leadership Academy Program, Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut today unveiled the New Hampshire Department of Education’s upgraded educator credentialing portal, the Educator Information System (EIS). The new, paperless EIS will allow more than 27,000 educators across New Hampshire to track their credentials status online and receive digital credentials, providing faster, cheaper service.

“Replacing physical credentials and letters with digital ones will save the Department from having to mail more than 22,000 documents each year,” said Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut. “And educators will receive automated reminders about renewals and more convenient access to their credentials.”

The upgraded credentialing portal is live, and a redesign of the Bureau of Credentialing’s website is scheduled for FY 2020. Currently, applications for educator certification take up to 60 days for initial review. The Bureau’s goal is to bring that under 30 days by next year. Automating routine procedures such as renewal reminders and password resets will free up personnel to focus on review of pending applications. The Bureau reviews credentials for 8,500 New Hampshire educators each year, as well as processing new applications and additions to current credentials.

“Ensuring that New Hampshire educators meet the requirements set by the State Board of Education is among our primary duties,” added Stephen Appleby, Administrator of the Bureau of Credentialing. “This upgrade will save time and money for the Department, and provide faster, more convenient service for New Hampshire educators.”
