Message for Constituents About White House Action
- Local school boards should regularly monitor their policies and practices to ensure they are in compliance with Title IX as interpreted by current federal guidance. Local school boards should also be prepared to adapt to any future shifts in the law, especially in light of potential regulatory changes at the federal or state level.
- Due to this executive order Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government and a Dear Colleague letter issued by the U.S. Department of Education, NHED has received several inquiries from parents and constituents regarding enforcement of Title IX and state law regarding discrimination. Individuals who have questions regarding their local school district's current policies should reach out to the local school district to determine its school board policy. Often this information can be found on the local school district’s school board website. If individuals believe that local school districts are failing to comply with the law, individuals should report this to the local school district’s Title IX investigator, which should be listed on the website for each school district. Under Title IX, schools must investigate and resolve complaints of discrimination, harassment, or retaliation.
