Phil Nazzaro is a passionate advocate for educational excellence and equity. His twenty-year service-oriented career has allowed him to witness first hand to power of education to drive individual and community change within some of the most disadvantaged communities in our country and across the globe.

Phil currently serves as the Associate Vice President of Talent Development at Southern New Hampshire University where he leads the professional development strategy for SNHU’s staff and faculty. His previous positions include Global Director of Leadership and Development at Bridge International Academies – the largest low cost private school in the world, Senior Managing Director of Learning and Development on Teach For America’s National Staff, Program Director at the Portsmouth, NH based company Dare Mighty Things where he worked with the leadership of the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe program (an alternative high school environment for dropouts), and an officer in the United States Army.

Prior to the State Board of Education Phil served two terms as a Town Councilor in Newmarket, NH including two years as Chairman. He currently serves on the Town’s Veteran’s Memorial Trust Committee and is an active member of American Legion Post 67, Newmarket.

Phil holds a B.S. in U.S. History from The United States Military Academy at West Point, an M.S. in Education from Long Island University, an M.A. in Psychology from Fielding Graduate University, and a Ph.D. in Psychology with a concentration in media from Fielding Graduate University. His dissertation examined the construction of trust via mediated communications.

Phil lives in Newmarket, NH with his wife, the former Ms. Lauren Bryar, their son Thomas, and their dog Ruby.
