Educators Can Learn About Bookshare Program In May, September 2018

NH DOE's SPED Bureau will offer specialized workshop for teachers, library coordinators and others.

The New Hampshire Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education is sponsoring "How Bookshare Can Help Your Students with Reading Barriers," an in-depth professional development workshop presented by Christine Jones from Bookshare.

There are four workshop dates:

  • Wednesday, May 16, 2018, 8 to 11:30 a.m., Tobey Building on South Fruit Street in Concord, Conference Room
  • Wednesday, May 16, 2018, noon to 3:30 p.m., Tobey Building Conference Room
  • Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, 8 to 11:30 a.m., Tobey Building Conference Room
  • Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, noon to 3:30 p.m., Tobey Building Conference Room

To succeed and become lifelong learners, students with dyslexia, reading disabilities, visual impairments, or other reading barriers need materials in formats other than print. Come and learn about Bookshare (bookshare.org), the world’s largest e-book library for people who need to read differently.

Brought to you by the nonprofit Benetech (benetech.org), Bookshare is free for all qualified U.S. students of any age, thanks to funding from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). More than 500,000 members enjoy access to Bookshare's extensive collection of 615,000 titles and read in ways that work for them. Members can listen to books in audio, following along with audio and highlighted text, or read in large type or braille, on Chromebooks, iPads/iPhones, MP3 players, other assistive devices and computers.

See Bookshare books being read on several platforms and learn about the many recent improvements to Bookshare that make it easier than ever to use. You’ll leave with the tools you need to help your qualified students become successful readers!

Suggested Attendees include Special education directors, special education teachers who work with students who have print disabilities, related services professionals who support students with print disabilities, library media coordinators/specialists, reading and writing specialists/teachers, and education technology integrators.
