Statement on today’s plea and sentencing hearing for Howie Leung

CONCORD, NH — It has been nearly four years since the New Hampshire Department of Education permanently revoked Primo “Howie” Leung’s teaching credentials after the former Concord High School education teacher was accused of inappropriate behavior with a student. At the time, his name was reported to the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education Certification to ensure that he is prohibited from working in any school in New Hampshire or any other state.

“There are no words to describe the heinous actions against this young girl, and no sentence that could ever bring back her innocence. As educators, it is our job to protect students and prioritize their safety, but Mr. Leung instead chose to deliberately victimize a student entrusted to his care. It is our hope that, now four years later, she has found the strength, support and purpose to overcome the violence and massive breach of trust. The Department worked aggressively to ensure that Mr. Leung will never be allowed to work with students again, and it will continue to proactively protect the safety of all students,” said Frank Edelblut, education commissioner.
