Advisory Councils

This page provides background on two Advisory Councils that advise and provide guidance to VR New Hampshire.

State Rehabilitation Council

We’re on a mission to help students and adults with disabilities prepare for and join our state’s workforce—and you can help by joining the New Hampshire State Rehabilitation Council (SRC).

The SRC is VR New Hampshire’s central advisory group. It helps steer the agency’s policies and procedures to ensure we meet the employment needs of New Hampshire residents with disabilities, as well as the businesses that stand to benefit from their skills and talent.

SRC members—more than half of whom have disabilities themselves—are appointed by the Governor for a maximum of two full three-year terms. To learn more, read our State Rehabilitation Council fact sheet.

Who may participate in the Rehabilitation Council?

The Governor may appoint any of the following:

  • Any individual with a disability or their representative
  • Other rehabilitation service providers
  • Representatives from programs with which VR has cooperative agreements and groups from which VR would like to receive advice
  • Business people

State Rehabilitation Council Meeting Minutes

Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC)

The Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) identifies and sets priorities for independent living services in New Hampshire, thus ensuring participation by persons with disabilities in the planning process of the State Plan. Members or the SILC are appointed by the Governor, and the majority are individuals with disabilities.

The SILC

  • Critically examines the needs of individuals with disabilities;
  • Develops the State Plan for Independent Living with the State Agency;
  • Advocates for individuals with disabilities;
  • Evaluates independent living programs in the state; and
  • Produces educational materials.
