Charter School Lease Aid Program

The purpose of this program is to provide aid to approved public chartered schools to offset the costs of leasing their facilities. The amount of lease aid is dependent upon the amount appropriated by the legislature each year.

The amount of lease aid is dependent upon the amount appropriated by the legislature each year. Lease aid shall be 30% of the eligible amount, up to a maximum amount of $50,000, whichever is less. If the lease aid appropriation does not fully cover the requested amount, aid is prorated among the eligible chartered public schools that applied.

Applications are submitted each year. There are two different application forms, the Charter School Lease Aid Initial Application and the Charter School Lease Aid Renewal Application. The Initial application is for those charters that did not receive aid in the prior year, charter schools whose lease has undergone substantive changes from the prior year, and those operating under a new lease from the prior year. The Renewal application is for those charters that received aid in the prior year and whose lease has not undergone substantive changes from the prior year.

In order to be eligible for aid in a given year, complete applications, including all required supporting documentation, must be submitted to the Department by the specified deadlines. A charter school must have active enrollments in the leased facility in order to qualify for aid.
